The Language of Victory

We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, being ready to punish every disobedience, when your obedience is complete. 2 Corinthians 10:5-6 ESV

Words have power. God informs us of this truth in the beginning of the Bible. By His Word, everything was made. Our entire existence is founded on the spoken language of our Creator. Just like in Genesis, we have the power to create with our words. Today, I want to encourage you to create victory.

Many people speak the language of defeat. There are lots of phrases that describe this speech. Negative self-talk, self-sabotage, pessimism, always or never statements, to name a few. A lot of this language is spoken unconsciously. “It just isn't going to work out,” we think. “I'm tired.” “I always feel bad.” I'm sick.” “I just can't ____.” You may find yourself saying these types of things without assessing the reality of your abilities or circumstances. And what results is what we have said, rather than a more successful outcome.

James 3:1-12 speaks about the power of the tongue and its potential to be destructive. By telling his audience about all the negative things unbridled speech can do, James implies that its inverse can also occur. Our words can either guide us into victory or into defeat. The language of victory wars against negativity, false doctrine, lies of every kind, subtleties, curses, and poisonous words. It destroys arguments and lofty opinions that defy the knowledge of God. It creates, empowers, blesses, refreshes, heals, and restores.

Become conscious of your vocabulary. If you are not speaking victory, you are speaking defeat. Silence, passive words, and neutrality can often disguise negativity. Beware of this. Be proactive in proclaiming the language of victory and raise the banner of celebration as you walk in triumph.
